Epoxy and polyester safety certificate

After completing the course, the participant will be able to work safely with substances and materials containing epoxy and isocyanates in accordance with Executive Order No. 1793 of December 18 2015, issued by the Danish Working Authority. 

When the participant has completed the course, he or she: 

  • is informed about the health risks associated with working with products containing epoxy and isocyantes. 
  • is informed about the substitution principle and any bans on usage. 
  • is able to select and correctly use personal safety equipment and, if required, other safety precautions in accordance with instruction manuals and code numbers. 
  • is able to ensure that the work with substances and materials is being carried out in accordance with the regulations, until fully hardened, and any hazard or otherwise adverse effects on the health have ceased. 
  • is able to ensure that workers other than those carrying out the work with the substances and materials, are not in such close proximity to the work, that they may be subjected to any health hazard or adverse health effect. 
  • is informed about hygienic and welfare precautions. 
  • is informed about accident and injury treatment, and is able to provide first aid treatment in the event of any exposure to epoxy and isocyanates, and is able to operate the emergency shower and eye flushing bottle. 
  • is informed about correct disposal of substances and materials containing epoxy and isocyanates. 
  • is able to ensure that the work area is marked with the correct signs and signals, when work with epoxy and isocyanates takes place. 

The participant is able to work safely with both small and large quantities of epoxy resins and isocyanates. During the practical part of the training, the participant has carried out tasks involving product knowledge, the substitution principle, product handling, accident and injury treatment, personal protective equipment, and workplace layout. 

On the basis of practical skills and knowledge of harmful risks, the participant can participate in polyester casting (including filling and finishing work) in fiberglass-reinforced unsaturated polyester in accordance with the qualification requirements in the Danish Working Environment Authority's executive order 1088, appendix 7, of 28 November 2011 with subsequent amendments.

The participant can use materials, equipment and personal protective equipment, in terms of safety and health, on the basis of information in safety data sheets and the Danish Working Environment Authority's executive order 1175 of 11 October 2007 with subsequent amendments.

Instructors on the course

Nils Johan Martin Uppström
Johan Upström has many years of work experience within wind turbine manufacturing working at one of the largest Danish wind energy companies. This includes five years of teaching experience with emphasis on safety, process skills and technology of materials. Upström has taken part in training employees for new work processes, blade types and at plant launchings both nationally and internationally including Canada, Morocco and England. Furthermore, he has participated in the development and planning of various skills training setups, such as specialized training for specific parts of blade manufacturing.
Ronni Bach
Ronni Bach has years of work experience within the composite industry, including working for the largest Danish manufacturer of wind turbines. In addition to this, he has worked with training and management at boatyards. Bach has conducted Blade Training globally (including the USA, China, Morocco, Canada and England), and has participated in the development and planning of various training setups, including BladeSchool. Bach has developed and conducted a wide range of certificate courses within advanced structural repairs for global blade service technicians.
